Teaching Philosophy
Personally, I believe that a good teacher should bring out the best in their students and see the potential that they might not be able to see in themselves quite yet. I have taken courses related to early childhood education, disability and equity, emergent literacy, teaching elementary science, teaching elementary literacy, teaching elementary mathematics, and curriculum and instruction. Throughout all of these courses, we have talked about the importance of teaching each child as an individual and finding new ways to keep children engaged in the material. I am a future educator who incorporates an asset based approach and strives to help students see their full potential. I achieve this goal through using culturally sustaining pedagogies, universal design for learning, and constructivism.
My Why
I specifically want to work in elementary school because of the impact that a positive teacher and role model can have on students at that age. Since elementary school can be a child’s first experience in an academic setting, I see it as my duty to ensure that they are excited to come to school. Entering the elementary school atmosphere as a male teacher, I understand and have seen how one positive role model can change young students’ lives. Looking back on my own childhood, I did not see many positive male role models teaching in elementary school. I am the type of teacher that wants to be every student’s biggest cheerleader. Some students may not have people that nurture their growth as a person inside and outside of the classroom. That is where my role comes in as a future educator.
About Me
I am orginally from Los Angles, California born and raised. In my free time, I like to listen to music, go to the gym, watch basketball and all other types of sports. I love to stay active and find new activities to participate in. I also enjoy cooking and baking new recipies.
